Peter Bent undertook a broad study of the liberal arts as an undergraduate, before focusing on economics in graduate school. As an undergraduate, he studied creative writing in Colorado, sociology in Egypt, and geology in Thailand and China, in addition to studying economics at the Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington.
Peter's graduate studies began with master's programs in economics and economic history at the University of New Hampshire and the London School of Economics, respectively. From 2014-16 he was a Marie Curie Early Stage Research Fellow at the University of Oxford. He received his PhD from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 2018. Prior to joining the economics department at Trinity, Peter was an assistant professor of economics at the American University of Paris.
Peter's interests in economic history shape his teaching of macroeconomics, as he encourages students to take a long-run perspective when analyzing today's economy. His commitment to the liberal arts features strongly in his teaching, and he prioritizes helping students hone their critical engagement with the course material.
