Jorge Antonio Sánchez Rivera is originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico. He holds a PhD in Hispanic Language and Literatures from Boston University. Before coming to Trinity, he taught Spanish at Boston College and Boston University, and Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx Literatures and Cultures at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Jorge’s passion lies in teaching literature and cinema. He believes that learning through cultural materials like films and telenovelas is key to gaining both language skills and the cultural nuances needed to navigate daily life in a Spanish-speaking country. To bring literature to life, Jorge uses “personal archival work”—blending interviews, reviews, and other media—and regularly invites guest writers from Latin America and the Caribbean into his classroom.
Beyond his academic work, Jorge is a creative writer. He published a collection of short stories in 2018 and is the co-founder of the publishing house blanco & Staccato, which he established alongside the renowned Puerto Rican author Juan Carlos Quiñones.
