Hernán Flom holds a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, with a focus on Comparative and Latin American Politics. His main research interests are criminal markets and state violence in Latin America. His first book, The Informal Regulation of Criminal Markets in Latin America, analyzes how states informally regulate drug trafficking in Latin American metropolitan areas. His work has appeared in Perspectives on Politics, Governance, Journal of Urban Affairs, Latin American Politics and Society, and Comparative Politics. Before arriving at Trinity, he was selected as a Visiting Fellow by the Kellogg Institute at the University of Notre Dame and worked as a Coordinator in the National Ministry of Security in Argentina. He believes in a dynamic and interactive learning experience, which engages students with real-world problems and uses alternative teaching methods to gauge students’ interests.
