Anand Butler received his PhD in economics from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 2025. His interest in economics began after he was first exposed to how economists asked questions and used empirical testing on their hypotheses during an introductory economics course as an undergraduate. He now conducts research in labor economics on the impacts of public policy as well as the role of market concentration. His research also involves economic history, the economics of crime, and industrial organization.

As an instructor, Anand aims to encourage student-driven interest and engagement with questions about how society is structured, how we make decisions, and what the impact of those decisions will be. He aims to prepare students with the critical thinking skills to approach large issues, as well as the practical tools for a variety of types of analysis. He has taught versions of all the core economic theory courses as well as electives in Mathematical Analysis and International Trade and Policy. Anand hopes to motivate many future problem-solvers at Trinity, regardless of whether their interests fall in labor, economics more broadly, or elsewhere.
