Ph.D., Florida State Univ. M.S., Tufts Univ. B.S., Dalian Univ. of Technology
Yue Shen is the Harold L. Dorwart Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Trinity College. She received her Ph.D. in Applied and Computational Mathematics from Florida State University and her M.S. in Mathematics from Tufts University. Her research focuses on the theoretical and computational aspects of manifold optimization and its applications in graph theory, network analysis, and high-dimensional data analysis. She has worked on graph role extraction, stochastic block models, graph-based algorithms for protein-protein interaction networks, and spatial transcriptomic data analysis.
Shen’s teaching emphasizes clarity, structure, and active mathematical thinking. She aims to help students learn not only how to carry out mathematical procedures, but also how to reason through problems, communicate their ideas, and recognize connections between mathematics, computation, and real-world applications. She has taught precalculus and calculus, assisted with graduate courses in computational mathematics, and mentored undergraduate students on applied mathematics research projects involving graph algorithms, numerical experiments, and scientific communication. |
