Jenny Wu was born in Nanjing, China. She holds a B.A. from William Smith College in Studio Art as well as in Architectural Studies, and an M.F.A. in Studio Art from American University. She is represented by Morton Fine Art.
Wu’s work acknowledges the sensational and perceptual properties of materiality and then transforms the materials from their original forms and purpose to present them within new contexts. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and museums including Denise Bibro Fine Art, Katzen Museum, Huntington Museum of Art, Reece Museum, Vilnius Academy of Arts in Lithuania, and CICA Museum in South Korea. Wu has participated in numerous Artist-in-Residence programs across the country; and has been awarded fellowships from Vermont Studio Center and the Pollock Krasner Foundation.
Wu has been teaching since 2016. Her primary goal as a teacher is to encourage students to become active critical thinkers, and be able to visually communicate ideas. She first teaches students to slow down the process and subconsciously process visual information. She then proposes challenges, equipping them with the skills to solve problems creatively. Finally, she guides students to find their own artistic voice by reflecting on their own experiences, the way they look at and experience the world around them, while motivating students to embed their meanings into artworks.
