Matthew Glassman a theatre artist and creator. He is an actor, writer, and director.

He comes out of a tradition of laboratory theatre which emphasizes an approach to creating original theatrical work which is process-driven, based on long-form, cross-disciplinary research. Physical training methodologies are a core component of this research.

For over two decades, his work has been as a member of Double Edge Theatre (Co-Artistic Director 2012-2020). In this capacity, he co-created and performed on tour around the US and overseas numerous acclaimed Double Edge indoor performances. He also helped develop the theatre’s annual outdoor spectacle performance series having co-created and acted in every spectacles since 2002 across Double Edge’s 100 acre Farm Center in Ashfield.

As a teacher and training leader, he has led university workshops and residencies around the world.

In 2014, he started the Art & Survival Biennial—a national convening which gathers artists, activists, and change-makers for a 2-day reflection on artistic practice and its impact on culture and movement building. His practice is informed by his over two decades of creating theatre in a rural context.
