Hernán Flom holds a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, with a focus on Comparative and Latin American Politics. His main research interests are illegal markets, violence, and criminal justice policies, particularly in Latin America. His book project analyzes how states informally regulate drug trafficking in Latin American metropolitan areas. His work has appeared on Governance, Latin American Politics and Society, and Comparative Politics. Before arriving at Trinity, he was selected as a Visiting Fellow by the Kellogg Institute at the University of Notre Dame and worked as a Coordinator in the National Ministry of Security in Argentina. While in Argentina, he also taught at multiple undergraduate and graduate programs in both public and private universities. He believes in a dynamic and interactive learning experience, which engages students with real-world problems and uses alternative teaching methods to gauge students’ interests.
