Christopher Hoag specializes in financial economic history, including banking and financial markets in the United States during the nineteenth century and the twentieth century.  His research investigates pre-Federal Reserve lenders of last resort (such as clearinghouse loan certificates and Aldrich-Vreeland certificates), bank window dressing, and technological change in the structure of information across capital markets.  He also has an interest in applied microeconomic theory.
