Dr. Azzedine Azzimani is originally from Morocco. He received his Ph.D. in Political Science from Cadi Ayyad University (Marrakech, Morocco). His dissertation was entitled, “Public Sphere and the Dialectics of the Religious and the Secular: Turkish Case.” In his dissertation, he argues that public sphere in today’s Turkey is neither merely Islamic nor secular; it is a dialectical public sphere that combines Islamic values and secular ones. The relationship between “the secular” and “the religious” is seen to be more overlapping and mutually transformative. Azzedine is currently an MA candidate in religious studies at the Duncan Black MacDonald Center for the Study of Islamic Studies and Christian-Muslim Relations at Hartford Seminary. Azzedine loves teaching and research, which he believes are inseparable. His teaching philosophy reflects his interests in collaborative authorship and dialogue. He favors dialogical classroom dynamics and he likes his students to think about the class as a community.
