9.05 Material Safety Data Sheets (OSHA’s Right-To-Know Act)

Effective Date: April 1, 2010

Purpose:

The College takes measures to provide information to employees about the hazards of chemicals in their workplace, in order to ensure employee health and safety. This policy provides information on potential workplace hazards.

Procedure:

Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs) provide information on: chemical properties; hazards and potential health effects; first aid, fire fighting, and spill control methods; handling and storage; exposure control and personal protection; stability and reactivity; toxicological, ecological, and disposal information. MSDSs are readily available and can be requested from the Chemical Hygiene Officer (CHO) for the department where the chemicals are stored, or downloaded directly from a variety of websites, including http://hazard.com/msds/index.php. The information on MSDSs, with the help of the CHO, can assist employees to determine the risks associated with exposure to chemicals and methods to control or eliminate chemical exposures.

For additional information, employees may contact the Environmental Health and Safety Department.
