7.04 Personal Time

Effective Date: April 1, 2010 (revised)

Purpose:

The personal time benefit allows non-exempt staff time off to meet personal responsibilities. This policy describes the benefit provided by the College, and the process for ensuring receipt of the benefit.

Procedure:

Non-exempt Employees

Personal time accrues on a monthly basis for all benefits-eligible non-exempt employees. Full-time, full-year employees accrue five (5) days each calendar year. Part-time employees with an FTE of .5 or greater accrue on a pro-rated basis according to their FTE. When the maximum accrual is reached, no further time accrues until the balance is reduced.

Use of this time must be approved in advance by the supervisor.

Exempt Employees

Exempt employees are not eligible for personal time. These employees may use vacation time to meet personal responsibilities.

Termination, Leaves and Status Changes

Employees will only receive personal time pay if there is sufficient time accrued — no “borrowing” against future accruals is permitted. Personal time does not accrue during leaves of absence without pay, including Military Service Leaves.

Accrued, unused personal time is not paid out upon separation from employment with the College.

Employees who go from full-time to part-time or vice versa will carry with them their accrued personal time balance as of the date of the change. If an employee changes from full-time to part-time position, any accruals in excess of the new maximum (but not more than one year’s accrual) will be paid out at the time of transfer, at the rate of pay in effect prior to the transfer.
