4.11 Pets on Campus

Effective Date: April 1, 2010 (revised)

Purpose:

The health and safety of all members of the College community is of paramount concern. This policy establishes the conditions under which pets may be present on campus.

Procedure:

No pets are allowed inside College buildings, including student housing. The College recognizes the importance of pets in their owner’s lives, but restrictions in regard to their presence inside offices and other buildings on campus must be adhered to.

The prohibition of pets in the workplace is designed to protect the health and safety of all members of our community and to be respectful and sensitive to those uncomfortable around animals. The only exception to this policy pertains to those with a specific disability requiring the assistance of an animal.

Anyone bringing a pet to campus for recreational purposes must abide by the leash laws of the City of Hartford and must personally assume responsibility for properly disposing of any waste material generated by the pet or damage caused by the pet.

Those failing to comply with this policy will be subject to disciplinary action.
