Course Description:
A study of representative thinkers of the medieval period, including Augustine, Boethius, Anselm and Aquinas. Discussion will focus on major issues such as the existence and nature of God, the problem of evil, free will and its compatibility with divine omniscience and the relation between philosophical reason and religious faith. Attention will also be paid to the cultural, historical and religious climates which helped influence the unique scholastic doctrines under discussion. |
