Course Description:
The Beatles were at the center of a revolution in rock ā€™nā€™ roll in the 1960s, affecting music in the US and around the world. This course will explore the enormous changes in rock music in that decade, seeking to understand them both musically and in terms of the important political and social changes that defined the 1960s. Our focus will combine detailed, critical listening (to musicians including Bob Dylan, the Beach Boys, the Byrds, the Supremes, and many others) with exploration of the numerous connections between the music and the rapidly changing society in which it was produced.
