Course Description:
From wearing campaign buttons to lying in front of bulldozers, people use their bodies to make arguments and communicate ideas. This course will explore the concept of rhetorics of the body, which studies how people use their bodies in symbolic communication. We will begin by reading a series of texts theorizing the relationship between rhetoric and the body and how the body both constructs and is constructed by rhetorical communication. Students will research projects that explore the rhetorical situation and strategies of a specific activist or demonstration. |
