Course Description:
This course will introduce topology via metric spaces. Students will study many examples of metric spaces via sets in Euclidean space, and then generalize to higher dimensional vector spaces, sequence spaces, and function spaces. For each example, concepts such as connectedness, convergence, limit points, open and closed sets, and continuity of mappings will be studied. Throughout the course, there will be a significant emphasis on argumentation, writing and exposition of formal mathematical arguments, and writing proofs. The course will also include oral presentations of mathematical arguments by students.
