Course Description:
Horror remains a foundational popular genre in contemporary culture, with deep roots in literary history, from Aristotle to Milton, from the Victorian Gothic to the ironic Postmodern. This course will explore horror as an enduring archive of fear, fascination, artistic innovation, and popular profitability. Course texts will range from essays, short fiction, novels, television episodes, film, and web productions from across the current landscape of horror, with an eye towards explaining its utility and resilience as a cultural form. |
