Adi Katz is the Director of Jewish Studies and a Hebrew lecturer in the Department of Language and Culture Studies. She is also a doctoral candidate in Modern Languages at Middlebury College. Her teaching philosophy is rooted in student-centered pedagogy, the use of differentiated learning methods, authentic materials from Israeli culture, and the ACTFL proficiency method. Her academic interests include language acquisition, ideology, and the development of contemporary Hebrew.
Her doctoral research examines how Hebrew language acquisition shapes the cultural identity and worldview of students in Jewish schools across North America. Through ethnographic methods, the study highlights the role of Hebrew in fostering Jewish literacy, national identity, and cultural capital.
Katz brings extensive teaching and administrative experience in education. In addition to teaching Hebrew, she has taught Hebrew Literature and Hebrew Written and Oral Expression. She has also served as a team leader for teachers, a project-based learning mentor and instructor, and as an assistant to the Supervisor of the Alternative Evaluation Program in Israel’s Ministry of Education.
Katz is passionate about fostering a vibrant and inclusive learning environment, helping students connect with their heritage and explore the richness of Jewish culture.
