Christopher Eldrett received his PhD from Boston University. His dissertation: Walt Whitman’s Prophetic Voice in Hispanic Lyric Poetry: León Felipe, Federico García Lorca, and César Vallejo, focuses on how poetry emphasizes a shared humanity in times of crisis. The study of Spanish language, literatures and cultures, broadens our worldview to new peoples and perspectives, and invites us to reflect on our own identity. Through studying how society responds to conflict, students recognize our intrinsic humanity across cultural differences. Christopher wants students to see language not as an abstract academic concept, but as an authentic way of being. It is the means by which we explore the cultural and linguistic elements that deepen our understanding of the subject. Every class is an exercise in discovery, and beyond vocabulary and grammar, are the personal interests and connections that students will take with them throughout their academic journey, and beyond.
