José Carlos Díaz Zanelli is Visiting Assistant Professor of Latin American Literature and Culture at Trinity College. He received a Ph.D. from the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Rutgers University in 2022. Before joining Trinity College, he taught Latin American literature, Latinx Studies, and Spanish language courses at Rutgers. As a teacher, his interests focus on the cultural history of the Andes, Amazonia, and Mesoamerica through the discussion of issues such as environment, politics, literature, and the exploration of indigenous mobilities.

He is currently working on a book project tentatively titled The Insurgent Veins of Indigenismo. His research focuses on issues such as the cultural representation of indigenous mobilities and ecological/ontological conflicts in the Andes, Amazonia, and Mesoamerica. Analyzing a heterogeneous cultural archive centered on indigenous issues, he works with a theoretical interface that includes decolonial critique, political ecology, continental philosophy, queer critique of color, and Latin American Marxism.
