Kerri began her career at the University of Connecticut where she also received her PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology in 2017. As a graduate student, she studied functional trait variation and ecophysiology in a plant genus (Pelargonium) from South Africa. She further pursued her passion for understanding how plants function in water-limited environments as a postdoctoral research associate at the California State University, Fullerton. Through her research, she has conducted extensive fieldwork internationally and across the United States. Kerri is passionate about undergraduate teaching and has mentored many undergraduate research projects. Her research program is founded in getting students into the field to ask their own questions about how plants interact with their environment and guiding them through the scientific process to answer these questions. She is excited about local research projects to understand how the New England flora is responding to climate change.
