Wendy Bartlett begins her 39th year as head coach of the Trinity College women's squash team in 2022-23, following the 2021-22 season that saw the Bantams play to a 15-2 overall record, win their 15th-consecutive NESCAC Championship title and finished third in the College Squash Association (CSA) Howe Cup Championships. Trinity remains the only women’s NESCAC champion in league history, winning every season since the inaugural championship in 2007. Bartlett was inducted into the CSA Hall of Fame in February of 2019.
In 2018-19, Bartlett led the Bantams to the CSA National Team Cup Finals with a 17-3 record before falling to Harvard. In 2017-18, Bartlett led the squad to a 15-3 record in dual matches and a runner-up finish in the CSA National Championship. Bartlett guided Trinity to its third Howe Cup crown in 2014, back to the national finals a year later in 2015, and to third-place finishes in 2016 and 2017. In 36 seasons, Bartlett's teams have compiled an impressive record of 438-117 for a .789 winning percentage, and she was honored as the NESCAC Coach of the Year in 2012-13, 2014-15, 2015-16, and 2017-18.
In 2013-14, Trinity topped Harvard, 5-4, to win their first national title since claiming back-to-back in 2002 and 2003. The victory over the Crimson, which avenged a defeat in the 2013 finals, put an exclamation point on a tremendous campaign for Trinity. The Bantams opened its slate with 11 straight victories, including eight shutouts, and finished 16-1 in dual matches with the lone setback coming at Harvard in early February. Trinity won back-to-back Howe Cup titles in 2002 and 2003, playing perfect for the two-year stretch with a 25-0 record, and finished as the Howe Cup Runner-Up in 2004, 2006, 2013 and 2015. She has coached 54 different players who have earned All-American squash honors in 36 years including two last season.
Bartlett earned her bachelor's degree in history and political science from Rollins College and obtained her master's degree in physical education from Central Connecticut State University. Before coming to Trinity, she was the director of racquet sports at the Fox Chapel Golf Club in Pittsburgh, Pa. A professor at the College, Bartlett also served as Trinity's women's tennis head coach from 1984 to 2015 and posted a 249-169-1 record with that program. Bartlett was elected to serve on the Coaches Advisory Committee for the CSA in 2019 and 2020. She emphasizes hard work and perseverance during drills, conditioning, competition and developing the tactical and strategic skills that each player can apply in competitive situations.
