In the spring of 2024, after 40 years as head coach of the Trinity College women's squash team, Wendy Bartlett decided to retire. Her retirement follows the 2023-2024 season that saw the Bantams play to a 18-0 overall record, win their fourth College Squash Association (CSA) National Team Championship and its 17th-consecutive NESCAC Championship title. Trinity remains the only women’s NESCAC champion in league history, winning every season since the inaugural championship in 2007. Bartlett was inducted into the CSA Hall of Fame in February of 2019. In 40 seasons, Bartlett's teams have compiled an impressive record of 474-117 for a .800 winning percentage, and she was honored as the NESCAC Coach of the Year in 2012-13, 2014-15, 2015-16, 2017-18 and 2022-23. In 2013-14, Trinity topped Harvard, 5-4, to win their third national title since claiming back-to-back in 2002 and 2003. The victory over the Crimson, which avenged a defeat in the 2013 finals, put an exclamation point on a tremendous campaign for Trinity. The Bantams opened its slate with 11 straight victories, including eight shutouts, and finished 16-1 in dual matches with the lone setback coming at Harvard in early February. Trinity won back-to-back national team titles in 2002 and 2003, playing perfect for the two-year stretch with a 25-0 record, and finished as national team finalists in 2004, 2006, 2013, 2015, 2018, 2019 and 2023. She has coached 62 different players who have earned All-American squash honors in 40 years including three last seasons. Bartlett earned her bachelor's degree in history and political science from Rollins College and obtained her master's degree in physical education from Central Connecticut State University. Before coming to Trinity, she was the director of racquet sports at the Fox Chapel Golf Club in Pittsburgh, Pa. A professor at the College, Bartlett also served as Trinity's women's tennis head coach from 1984 to 2015 and posted a 249-169-1 record with that program. Bartlett was elected to serve on the Coaches Advisory Committee for the CSA in 2019 and 2020. She emphasizes hard work and perseverance during drills, conditioning, and matches.
