Hazal Özgür is a painter and printmaker from Istanbul, Turkey. Özgür’s work filters personal experience through the lens of psychoanalysis. Through material investigation, experimentation and play, she allows moments of clarity to map onto forms, narratives and color relationships. Like an analyst honing in on the slip that reveals the unconscious, she brings what lies at the periphery into the center. Currently, Özgür is exploring perception, light, shadows and color in her work.

Özgür has presented multiple solo exhibitions in Istanbul and has participated in group shows in New York, New Haven, Berlin, Gaziantep, and Istanbul. She has held various roles at the Yale University Art Gallery and the Yale Center for British Art. |
Özgür is a recipient of the Yale University Art Gallery Art Museum Scholar Summer Fellowship, the Yale John Boit Morse Memorial Fellowship, and the Yale International Study Abroad Grant. In spring 2026, she was selected as a finalist for the Hopper Prize. Her work is featured in the inaugural issue of New American Paintings: Nova. |
