Arpita Biswas is a doctoral candidate in the department of Economics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She holds an M.Phil., an M.A. and a B.A. in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Hyderabad Central University, and Delhi University in India, respectively. Her thesis research focuses on the political economy of urban development, with an emphasis on the class and gender effects of displacement in cities of the global South. Arpita is passionate about teaching and believes that it goes hand in hand with research. Like her research emphasis, her teaching interests particularly lie in understanding the political economic causes and consequences of inequalities along different social axes in the less-developed world.
