Akta Kaushal is a Visiting Lecturer in Political Science. Her research and teaching excavate the ways colonialism shapes global power structures and relations. She began her journey studying politics while pursuing her BA in International Studies at American University, during which she also spent time studying in India (in Pune and at Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi). Her MA at Aberystwyth University in Wales gave her an opportunity to focus on postcolonial politics, where she wrote a thesis on the moral economies and representational politics of farmer suicides in India. From there, she went to the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, from where she is currently writing her dissertation in the Political Science program.

Akta’s pedagogy is one that encourages a critical consciousness and self-reflexivity in the study of global politics and international relations. Her intentions are to make the classroom a collaborative space, to encourage students to fashion their own views, and to invite them to communicate their perceptions of the political realities they encounter.
