Amy A. Hunter is an injury epidemiologist and research scientist at the Injury Prevention Center at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. She serves as the principal investigator of the Connecticut Injury Surveillance System (CISS), and is responsible for the management, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of large data (emergency department discharges, hospitalizations, crash data repository, death certificates). Dr. Hunter also holds the position of Assistant Professor at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in the departments of Pediatrics, and Community Medicine and Health Care, where she co-teaches a course in Injury and Violence Prevention. Dr. Hunter’s primary research is focused on analyzing factors impacting the risk of incident and recurrent child maltreatment. Dr. Hunter serves as the Secretary for the Injury Control and Emergency Health Services section of the American Public Health Association, and recently received joint funding from the American Public Health Association (APHA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to evaluate perpetrators of fatal child maltreatment using the National Violent Death Reporting System (NVDRS).
