Elizabeth Allen, PhD, LCSW received her MSW (1997) and PhD (2017) from UConn School of Social Work. She is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) with extensive clinical experience in mental health, substance abuse, trauma and forensic settings.  She worked for 20+ years at York Correctional Institution as a Clinical Social Worker with justice-involved women andcurrently works with returning citizens to successfully rebuild their lives. She is also an adjunct professor and faculty advisor to MSW students at UConn, University of Saint Joseph, and Sacred Heart University. Her research interests and publications in peer-reviewed journals focus on substance abuse, justice-involved women, desistance and community reintegration. Dr. Allen is an active member of NASW, IASWG, CSWE and SSWR where she presents regularly on desistance and the social work profession, racial and gender disparities in the criminal justice system and empowerment clinical practice with justice-involved populations. She is also the Co-Chairwoman of SSWR's  "Smart Decarceration"  Grand Challenge post-incarceration working sub-group. This fall, she will be engaging in community-based participatory research with children with incarcerated parents in Bridgeport, CT as well as a Co-PI for a study investigating successful reentry with individuals living with HIV.
