Yunchiahn C. Sena teaches history of Asian art with a special focus on Chinese art and visual culture.  She believes that aspects of Asian art offer fresh views into our contemporary life.  Although her research subjects range widely from painting, to architecture, to collections, her main interest has always been the intersection between art from the past and contemporary thought.  She has published several journal articles on how Chinese intellectuals since the eleventh century have dealt with this issue.  Her forthcoming book, Song Antiquarianism (University of Washington Press, 2018), is the first monograph in English to examine the changing notion of antiquity in Chinese art and material culture. It has won publication grants from the Chiang Ching-Kuo Foundation and the College Association of Art.  She is currently working on two book-length projects, one on an illustrated catalogue of the Chinese imperial collection from the twelfth century, the other dealing with art and architecture in Taiwan during the Japanese colonial period (1895-1945).
