Born in Newtown, PA in 1980, Andrew Wertz received his M.F.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2015. While there he was the recipient of the T.C. Colley award for excellence in Photography. As an undergraduate at Trinity College, Andrew’s early interest in Architecture led him to the Studio Arts department to deepen his foundation in the fine arts. It was there that he discovered Photography as an art form capable of sustaining a profound and rich engagement with the world. Andrew’s relationship to the fabric of the built environment can be best described in terms often reserved for the naturalist. He is most at home in the field, studying and communicating the layers of history in small communities and tight-knit working class neighborhoods of the post-industrial Northeast. He believes that Photography can offer a means to intercede, albeit briefly, against the inexorable passage of time.
