Dr. Gutierrez-Miravete has over thirty years of experience as engineering professor, researcher and industrial consultant. He is an expert in mathematical modeling of free and moving boundary problems in materials engineering, specifically those involving solidification, melting and other phase transformations in metals and alloys. He is currently a Professor of Practice at Rensselaer in Hartford, CT where he has pioneered the use of innovative instruction methods in the graduate engineering program. He has been a visiting scientist or a visiting professor at institutions in the USA, Mexico and Sweden. His research work has been supported by grants and research results have been published in technical journals. His teaching philosophy is based on collaborating with students to make them develop their own insight through reflection, experimentation and discovery.
