Carol Any teaches courses on Russian literature, language, and culture. She is fascinated by the relationship between literature and political culture. Her research on Russian writers under Stalin’s dictatorship led her to an interest in how we each form our sense of personal identity, and she developed a knowledge of that field as well. Her book, The Soviet Writers' Union and Its Leaders: Identity and Authority under Stalin (Northwestern University Press, October 2020), won the University of Southern California Book Prize in Literary and Cultural Studies.
Professor Any is also the author of Boris Eikhenbaum: Voices of a Russian Formalist (Stanford University Press, 1994), as well as articles on the theory and politics of literature.
