Degrees:
Ph.D., Univ. of Massachusetts
B.A., St. Andrews Presbyterian Coll.
Professor Henderson obtained his B.A. in Chemistry at St. Andrews Presbyterian College in NC where his interests also included topics from Western Civilization to Eastern Religions. After earning his Ph.D. at U. Mass Amherst in analytical chemistry in 1975 and a 3 year postdoctoral at U. Mass studying oil shale, he joined the faculty of Trinity College in 1977 and retired in 2015. His 35+ scholarly publications involve applications of chromatography and mass spectrometry to food antioxidants from plants, metal analysis, biochemical analysis, environmental analysis, and the study of mummies. He was the founder of the Interdisciplinary Science Program at Trinity and served as the first Director of the Environmental Science Program.
He remains active in the Reacting to the Past pedagogy and has authored eight Reacting courses dealing with environmental policy, nutrition, chemistry, GM crops, and religion. In retirement he continues to work actively as a consultant and workshop leader for Reacting to the Past. He also teaches in the Osher Life Long Learning program at Dartmouth. He is an avid skier, enjoys kayaking and hiking. His photographs and paintings are displayed in local art shows, and he plays guitar and sings in choral groups and as a soloist. |
