Katharine Power is an Associate Professor of Theater and Dance who teaches a broad array of courses designed to engage students in lively, critical debate about the arts. She is particularly interested in examining both the performing and the visual arts in various social and political contexts  and in provoking student interest  in such fundamental questions as: is Beauty essential to art? Is art a public good? Professor Power's courses include: "Art and Ideas", "American Women Artists and Cold War Culture" and "The Eye of the Beholder: Theatrical Performance and Critical Values." In addition to teaching for the Theater and Dance department, Professor Power offers courses for several programs at the College including the InterArts Program, American Studies, Women, Gender and Sexuality Program, and the Public Policy and Law Program.

Professor Power received a B.F.A. degree in Theater Education from Emerson College and an M.F.A. degree in Dance from Smith College. She has worked as a dance critic and has been a member of the Trinity faculty since 1979. Her current scholarly interests include critical discourse on dance during the early Cold War era and the intersection between aesthetic preferences and public funding of the arts.
